OBJECTIVE OF COURSE:
This course will introduce students to principles in weed biology and how they apply to management of weeds in agricultural settings as well as educate students on how to identify common weed species. Emphasis will be placed on understanding the information presented and applying it to solve typical weed management problems in Wisconsin agriculture.
COURSE MATERIALS
No textbook is required for this course as most of the information will be given to you or made available on the internet. You will receive a copy of the 2013 Pest Management in Wisconsin Field Crops guide produced through University of Wisconsin Cooperative Extension.
ATTENDANCE and PARTICIPATION
Daily attendance and participation is expected. A percentage of your grade (10%) will be determined by the instructor based upon observations throughout the course. These points could be important in borderline cases.
GRADING
Your grade will be determined based on your performance on three quizzes, the Weed ID test, farmer problem in lab, participation and attendance, and the final exam. The lowest quiz score will be dropped. If a quiz or exam is missed, a makeup exam will need to be scheduled immediately; makeup exams will be an oral examination. All tests will be scored on a standard scale, where an A=92-100%, AB=89-91%, B=82-88%, BC=79-81%, C=70-78%, D=60-69%, F<60%. The top score will be determined by averaging the top 5 scores of the class for the particular test/quiz.
